Optus is continuing to expand its 4G Plus network and today announced a $7.6 million commitment to improve mobile coverage along the Fleurieu Peninsula and on Kangaroo Island.
Optus’ State Manager for South Australia, Steve Fairfield said this commitment is in response to customer feedback.
“Optus will build and activate 12 new sites in the next two years to improve mobile coverage and customer experience across the region for residents, businesses and the 500,000 visitors to the area,” Mr Fairfield said.
“Our customers have told us they want better indoor and outdoor coverage when they are at home and away and that’s why we are investing $7.6 million to improve coverage, deliver faster download speeds and reduce blackspots along key transport links including the Princes Highway, Southern Expressway, South Eastern Freeway and Victor Harbor Road.
“Optus coverage has improved on Kangaroo Island with the recent completion of two new sites at Vivonne Bay and Parndana.
“In the next two years Optus will build and activate 12 new sites at Carrickalinga, Clayton, Currency Creek, Langhorne Creek, Middleton, Mount Compass North, Nepean Bay West, Port Elliot, American River, Encounter Bay, Encounter Bluff and Woodchester.”
Recent upgrades were carried out to sites at Goolwa, Strathalbyn, Milang, Mount Observation, Hindmarsh Island and in the Victor Harbor CBD.
Optus today also opened its first store in Victor Harbor which has created four new local jobs. The new store boasts more than 67sqm of the latest gadgets and gizmos to help residents and businesses stay connected.
In the past 8 years Optus has invested $6 billion to build and maintain its mobile network. This year Optus will invest $1.5 billion to expand and strengthen its national network.
The Optus network handles over 45 million calls and 80 million SMS messages each day and carries 6,000 terabytes of data each week. The growing demand for mobile coverage is why Optus is continuously raising the bar when it comes to improving mobile services in regional Australia.
