Optus has announced a $4 million commitment to improve 4G mobile coverage in and around Sale including at the RAAF Base.
Optus’ Regional Market Manager for Gippsland Jayson Grool said, “Optus is committed to providing fast and effective mobile and internet coverage for customers across Gippsland.”
“In the next 12 months, Optus will build six new sites at West Giffard, Sale RAAF base, Woodside, North Sale, in east Longford and the Sale CBD.
“These new sites will provide improved coverage for customers travelling to and from Sale, especially along the Princes Highway and the South Gippsland Highway.”
Optus recently upgraded coverage at Kimany and activated new sites at Heyfield and West Sale which are delivering improved indoor and outdoor mobile coverage, and faster download speeds for customers in the region.
Optus representatives were joined by former Australian Olympic swimming champion, Ian Thorpe, to officially open a new 190sqm store in Sale which has created two local jobs. The store stocks all of the latest mobile phones, accessories and smart technology.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester attended the store’s official opening in Sale and welcomed Optus’ investment into improved mobile phone services across Gippsland.
“Mobile phones have become an essential part of everyday life, with medical clinics and schools using apps and SMS to confirm appointments and contact customers,” Mr Chester said.
“Even tasks such as claiming Medicare rebates and accessing fixtures for junior sport now rely on access to a smart phone.
“I commend Optus for its commitment to the Gippsland community in choosing to upgrade services and invest in the new Sale store.”
In July, Optus announced plans to spend $1 billion to improve and expand its mobile network in regional Australia. Mr Grool said today’s announcement forms part of this pledge.
“We’re really pleased to be able to offer customers in Sale and the Gippsland region more choice in mobile carriers, greater network coverage and faster mobile internet download services,” Mr Grool said.
The Optus network handles over 45 million calls and 80 million SMS messages each day and carries 6,000 terabytes of data each week. Optus is continuing to expand and strengthen its network to deliver improved data and voice services across metropolitan, regional and remote locations nationally.
