Optus today announced a partnership with Anna Meares, the most successful female track cyclist in history, ahead of her fourth Olympic campaign in Rio this year.
She will star in the second phase of the Relentless Improvement national advertising campaign, launched earlier this year and featuring Olympic champion Usain Bolt. Meares will feature in TV, print, digital, and outdoor advertising, as well as a series of short documentary style videos that will see her recount her cycling career from childhood through to the present.
Ben White, Acting Managing Director of Product and Marketing, said “Anna is a remarkable athlete who has achieved unprecedented success on a global level. She demonstrates time and time again that relentless determination is the defining quality that sets her apart from the rest.
“Overcoming what could have been a career-ending injury to win an Olympic medal in 2008 really highlights that Anna will stop at nothing to prove herself.
Optus will stop at nothing to improve our network and content offering to bring our customers the best in sport and entertainment.”
Meares’ record breaking achievements have captivated Australians, and her commitment and tenacity has seen her defy the odds since her debut on the international cycling stage in 2004.
Meares has achieved extraordinary success; including two Olympic gold medals, 11 world titles, five Commonwealth gold medals, and 31 Australian titles.
When she competes in Rio 2016 Anna Meares will become the first Australian female cyclist to compete in four Olympic Games, and said she is excited to partner with Optus as she attempts to defend her London 2012 sprint title.
“All athletes can identify with the idea of relentless improvement; it’s the fundamental concept that drives us to achieve our goals – and more than ever as we look towards Rio 2016.
“Competing at the Olympics is a huge moment for any athlete, but it’s not just being at the Games – it’s all of the hard work and commitment that comes before that. A good support network is critical, and it’s great to know Optus is supporting us now and in the years to come,” Anna Meares said.
